According to the website of Romfea, the Synod of the Ecumenical Patriarchate has made the decision today, January 13, 2015, to enlist the monk Paisios the Athonite among the ranks of the saints.
Glory to God! God is with us and is wonderful in His saints!
Although the website does not state what date St. Paisios’ feast day will be celebrated, he repose on July 12 and is buried at the Holy Monastery of St. John the Theologian in Souroti (outside Thessaloniki) where thousands of pilgrims visit his holy grave every July 12 (as well as throughout the year). So, my guess (but it is only a guess) is that his feast day will be July 12. But, I will update this post if I learn differently.
May we have the much-needed prayers and blessing of the holy father among the saints, Paisios the Athonite!
The bells at the monastery in Souroti ringing out in celebration the day St. Paisios was canonized! (Thanks to a friend for sending me the link).
Glory to God! St. Paisios, pray to God for us!
I am so excited! It’s like Christmas in the spiritual sense of Christmas!!
Praise God, I am a catechumin in the Orthodox Church. After years in the occult , I was miraculously saved by our Lord Jesus Christ. I joined a Protestant church and was baptized. For years I was drawn to Orthodoxy but had fears about some of the rituals and practices because of my occult background. For the past three years I had been going back and forth between Orthodox Church and Protestant Churches. Every time I would be on my path to Orthodoxy, I would be plagued with doubts. Elder Paisios has been a blessing to me. Reading “The guru and Elder Paisios” literally changed my life. It spoke to so much of my experience and the elders humility and wisdom gave me a glimpse into a depth that I had not experienced in Protestantism. No disrespect intended to Protestants, but mostly no-one could speak to my experience. I praise God for the elder being officially canonized, he has been a saint in my life by guiding me to Jesus in a deep and lasting way.
I have greatly enjoyed reading his books–or actually the books regarding his teachings 🙂
Such a gift!
with love—Julie
Thank you God! I am very Happy. St. Paisios pray to the Lord to save our soul.
Carla,
I thank God that St. Paisios has been so instrumental in your conversion to Christ. He, through much asceticism, struggle, pray and love for the Lord, became a dwelling place for the Holy Spirit and thus is able to reach so many and to speak to so many in the circumstances in which we find ourselves. I’m sure his prayers (and those of his spiritual father, St. Arsenios the Cappodocian) will greatly benefit you! May the Mother of God also be with you, guide and protect you!
